It is with deep sorrow that I have learned of the death of Marian Loeschner which occured on 19 August 1999. Marian was for many years the genealogist for Clan Sinclair and has been a very close friend and fellow genealogist of mine for years and years.
She was a descendant of Alexander Sinclair of Stafford County, Virginia (Archive Family VA-1) taking her American roots back to 1698. I descend from Robert and she descended from his younger brother, George. I would like to share with all of you one of the poems from her book, Smell the Roses.
My forebears were a mixture ...of German, Scotch, Swiss..and so -
I have to keep busy.. or discontented I will grow.
I have an "itchy foot", an inquiring mind, a poetic and musical turn, and yet...
I have never excelled in any one thing and inactivity makes me fret!
Always looking for a historical twist or a strange kind of bend...
And this has led me into some weird situations --albeit..those of a genealogical ken.
I have gone back in history to the beginnings of this land....
And yes, I found some relatives...good and bad, daring women and adventurous men
And this has led me to some with wild situations indulged by some relatives of mine...
And I have been enthralled and entertained by thse great, great aunts,
uncles and cousins - that lived for a time.
Their lives were filled with historic wonders, and I have been surprised and dismayed--
With some of their adventures -- they were part scoundrel and a shady woman or two - one past day!
I will admit they left a heritage that I wonder at from time to time...
Some were brave and hardy ..patriotic..some were "taken" to the fruit of the vine.
But, on close examination -- they wre staunch and brave, both the women and the men...
And left bright red blood flowing in my veins--and not ashamed to be their kith and kin!
I just hope when I pass along to Heaven's gate -
That my family will be as proud as I have been, and be glad that I was a part of their fate!
